SONGWRITING AND CO-WRITES

Music is everywhere these days, especially now access to it is no longer controlled just by the traditional channels of radio, record labels and TV. Home-recording equipment has also become so much more accessible in recent years. You can now make a hit in your bedroom on a basic laptop with some relatively inexpensive music software! And there are 4.4 billion people worldwide who have access to the internet so new and old music is literally just a click away!

But at the heart of every stream of music, however, is a song that in it’s simplest form can be just one voice, an instrument, a story and an emotion. What I love about the process of songwriting is creating something unique that didn’t exist a few hours ago, yet it can still be played a lifetime later and has the potential to resonate with millions of people that forms the “soundtrack” to their lives.

Over the last few years I’ve been mainly focussing on writing for myself, going through a discovery phase in trying to find out what I sound like, as a solo artist. But recently I’ve been writing for other artists again too which has been fun and another opportunity to connect and learn something new. These sessions can be really interesting as you get to experience someone else’s approach to songs, ideas and lyrics.

The process is the same with anything you do - songwriting is a muscle that gets stronger with practice and focus. I’m now at the stage where writing top-lines and melodies is effortless, in the past I’ve written three sketches of a melody, chorus and verses within about 15 minutes, back-to-back. Really pleased with some of the songs I’ve been fortunate to co-write, you can listen to some of these below.

If you are an artist who is looking to push your songwriting to the next level and fancy trying out a co-write for your next single then get in touch via the link below.
